SALT LAKE CITY TEMPLE SQUARE

APRIL 11, 2011

Salt Lake City was founded by Mormon Pioneers on July the 24th 1847.

The central city, in American English usually called Downtown SLC (check Wikipedia for this special US Expression) is built in close connection to the gigantic Temple Square Area which is the world headquarters for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The plans for the temple was marked only 4 days after Brigham Young and the mormon pioneers arrived at the place but it took 40 years to complete . Finally on April 6, 1893 it was dedicated by Wilford Woodruff the fourth President of the LDS Church.

The Temple Square contains many buildings among them the Tabernacle close to the temple, you see it to the left in the first panorama.

The Tabernacle was built between 1864 and 1867 and was the location for the LDS General Conference for 132 years until 2000 when the LDS Conference Center you can see in the background took over.

The Tabernacle is also know for the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir which since July 15, 1929, has performed a weekly radio broadcast (today also TV) called Music and the Spoken Word,
